BarhopMaps

BarhopMaps lets you see where your friends are, what’s going on around them, find your favorite bars, night clubs, venues, and more!

You won’t appear on Barhop Maps unless you have given consent to be tracked and can toggle between Ghost Mode and Private Mode at any point. Your location is not intended to be viewable if you are not at a bar, restaurant, night clubs, or concert venue. If you live directly next to or above a bar, the app may register you as “in” the bar and we recommend going into Ghost mode when not out for the night.

Places make it easy to interact with local businesses on the Barhop Map. Just tap a Place on the Map to view the place’s listing.

Ghost Mode

Ghost mode is one of the umbrella privacy features on our app. By tapping the ghost icon in the top right corner of the screen on the Barhop Social home page, you will be prompted to turn on/off Ghost mode. Ghost mode will disable other users from being able to see your location on BarhopMaps. Use this feature when you don’t want any friends to see your location. You will still have full functionality on the app. The only people who will ever be able to see your location are people you have added.

Location

Barhop Social uses your device’s GPS to offer certain location-based features. For example, we use your device’s location to show you what’s nearby. We also use your location to figure out what you’d like to see — so people in Austin, Texas are receiving discounts and deals to Austin based establishments.

We store GPS locations for a while to help improve the Map and other features. For example, we may store some of the locations you visit the most so we can show you more relevant Search content or update your activity on the Map.

You can still use Barhop Social if you disable location permissions in your device’s settings, but many of these features won’t work right (or at all!) without it. Sometimes we can still infer an approximate location like a country or city, based on an IP address — but it’s not perfect.

Privacy Mode

Privacy mode is one of the umbrella privacy features on our app. By tapping the eye icon in the top right corner of the screen on the Barhop Social home page, you will be prompted to turn on/off Privacy mode. Privacy mode will disable other users that are not marked as one of your “favorites” from being able to see your location on Barhop Maps. Use this feature when you only want your favorites to see your location. You will still have full functionality on the app. The only people who will ever be able to see your location are people you have added.
